IN 1.4418 stainless steel rod bar

l  Descripition of DIN 1.4418stainless steel:

北京PK10注册官网1.4418 is characterised by its very goodresistance to corrosion in aggressive media coupled

with very good mechanical and impactproperties.DIN 1.4418 stainless steel is a martensitic stainless steelspecially designed for those applications requiring high mechanical propertiescombined with improved corrosion resistance relative to traditional martensiticsteels.

DIN 1.4418 stainless steel is also offeredas an enhanced machining variant, DIN 1.4418 EM stainless, which obtains anenhanced machinability characteristic through controlled addition of sulfurwithout degrading strength or corrosion resistance. DIN 1.4418 stainless steelcontains differentiated micro constituents for easier machining production.

l  Applications of DIN 1.4418stainless steel:

For any application requiring highstrength, high hardness, and corrosion resistance similar to 304 stainless. Manyapplications can be found in fields like automotive, industrial, andothers, where a combination of high mechanical properties and a good corrosionresisitance is critical. This alloy has been specified in pressurized fuelsystems for direct injected engines, fittings on fuel rails, fuel pumps, andinjector bodies.

DIN 1.4418 stainless steel can be used totemperatures around 550 °C, and it can be used in cryogenic applications

l  Physical properties of DIN 1.4418stainless steel:

density (kg/dm3): 7.70

electrical resistivity at 20 °C (½ mm2/m):0.70

北京PK10注册官网Magnetizability: yes

北京PK10注册官网thermal conductivity at 20 °C (W/m K) :15

specific heat capacity at 20 °C (J/kg K) :430

thermal expansion (K-1) :
20 – 100 °C: 10.8 x 10-6

20 – 200 °C: 10.8 x 10-6

20 – 300 °C: 11.2 x 10-6

20 – 400 °C: 11.6 x 10-6

l  Typical applications of DIN 1.4418stainless steel:

北京PK10注册官网chemical industry

ship building

mechanical engineering

aviation and aerospace

北京PK10注册官网Note: available from stock

diameters < ø 20 available on request

l  Processing properties of DIN1.4418 stainless steel:

北京PK10注册官网automated machining: seldom

Machinable: moderate

北京PK10注册官网hammer and die forging: yes

cold forming: yes

北京PK10注册官网cold heading: not common

suited to polishing: yes

l  Conditions of DIN 1.4418 stainlesssteel:

annealed, quenched

l  Corrosion Resistance of DIN 1.4418stainless steel:

Due to its higher alloy content, 1.4418 ismore resistant to corrosion than 1.4057 and the

北京PK10注册官网addition of molybdenum allows limitedexposure to marine environments. As a result of its

chemical composition and microstructure,1.4418 is extremely resistant to intergranular corrosion,

北京PK10注册官网corrosion fatigue and stress corrosioncracking.

l  Heat treatment and mechanical propertiesof DIN 1.4418 stainless steel:

北京PK10注册官网1.4418 can be soft annealed by holding at atemperature of approximately 600 °C (but not in

excess of 625 °C), followed by slow coolingin air. In this condition, the following mechanical

北京PK10注册官网properties can be expected:

Property: Specification

tensile strength (N/mm2): Rm ²: 1100

北京PK10注册官网Hardness: HB ² :320

1.4418 can be hardened by holding at atemperature between 1000 °C – 1050 °C followed by

cooling in air, oil or polymer.

l  Welding of DIN 1.4418 stainlesssteel:C m0

北京PK10注册官网1.4418 is readily weldable using allstandard welding techniques. Care must however be taken

to ensure that hydrogen or carboncontaining gasses are not used when welding under shielded

gas. Pre-heating of the work piece to atemperature between 100 °C and 200 °C is recommended. After welding, theweldment should either be annealed or tempered, as described before. If a fillermaterial is required, then either a matching filler or Novonit® 4430 should beused.

l  Forgingof DIN 1.4418 stainless steel:

Care should be taken when forging 1.4418,since gradual heating to a temperature of about

800 °C is recommended prior to more rapidheating to a temperature of between 1150 °C and

北京PK10注册官网1180 °C. Forging should then take placebetween 1180 °C – 950 °C followed by cooling is an

oven or in dry ash or similar material topromote slow cooling.

l  Machiningof DIN 1.4418 stainless steel:

The machinability of this grade ofstainless steel is directly related to its hardness. 1.4418

machines similar to carbon steels of thesame hardness. Although it must be realised that the

machining parameters will vary depending onthe heat treated condition and hardness of the

steel, the following parameters can be usedas a guideline:
